Dean David Francko welcomed everyone and asked all members to introduce themselves. The February 27, 2007 minutes were read and then approved with no corrections.
Dean Francko welcomed everyone to the meeting.
I. Graduate Council Committees
- Dean Francko began the meeting with a report from Dr. Marsha Houston, Chair of the Admissions and Recruitment Committee. Dr. Houston submitted the committee’s recommendation for the approval of the new Community Journalism Master of Arts Knight Foundation Grant-Funded Program. The Council agreed that, since CJ is a grant-funded program, John Schmitt should seek approval from SACS for the duration of the grant. If the program wishes to continue beyond the initial grant period, it must re-apply for a waiver of admissions standards.
Dr. Houston also submitted the committee’s recommendation to renew the Music program and the Modern Languages and Classics program for a waiver of admissions test score. All three recommendations were passed.
- Dr. Kari Frederickson reported from the Financial Aid Committee. Research and Creative Activity Awards were completed with 74 nominations. Final acceptance for the Graduate Council Fellows will be due June 15, 2007. Approximately 54 have accepted, 1 declined , and and the rest are of pending.
II. Reports from the Dean’s Office and Academic Affairs
Dr. Natalie Adams reported on the Last Lecture Series. Dr. Ron Dulek will be speaking on April 30, 2007 at 30 Alston Hall at 6:00 p.m. Dr. Adams encouraged everyone to come out and participate attend.
